‘Control what you can’ is a prescriptive offered by many helping professionals to take the focus away from what is outside of our power and help reframe our negative thoughts and emotions into more palatable foci. However, this advice is void of nuance, rendering it a great platitude but not always a useful tool. So HOW do we ‘control what we can’? What does it look like in real time?
